hoge golven.

ENGLISH:
Sunday May 13, day 5
As I write this the last reef is being taken
out of the mainsail, we need more speed, and the winds are light though the waves
are still bumpy. We all long for a more favourable wind direction.
Yesterday was a nice day for sailing and
doing little chores. Henk was starting to feel the COLD of more northern
latitude, he donned a pair of fleece trousers.... and I started to replace the
zippers of Henk and my sailing jackets, and my sailing trousers. They were
corroded beyond repair and Anita brought new ones from Holland. Too much
movement of the boat though to start with the sewing machine.
Bob's watchful eye saw that one side of a
trampoline had chafed and broken. He crawled to the foredeck and replaced the
line, himself secured by his lifeline on his safety vest.
Henk's gout is worse, he thinks it's because
too much physical activity with the sails and lines. We start dreaming of
electrical winches...., like continue to charter to save up for one!
In Anita's blog today she writes about our
daily activities and non-activities. Since most of our English speaking readers
are sailors who know the ropes, I will keep it short:
Our watches are 2,5 hours, between 8 p.m.
and 6 a.m., then Henk takes over. Breakfast starts around 7.30 a.m., the last
watch (me) preparing breakfast and then going to bed again to catch up on
sleep. Anita has the 1st watch and Bob and Ruud alternate the middle watches.
At 8 a.m. I am ready for the Atlantic
Homerun Net, I give them our position and the conditions of sea and weather.
Anita marks the position of the other boats on our large chart, and at noon our
own position. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon we have something to drink and a
snack e.g. fruit cocktail. Lunch is around 1 p.m. , then Anita and Bob do the
dishes and we all relax: listen to music, read a real book or on an e-reader,
do puzzles on I-Pod or tablet, we are really quite modern, different from our
trip coming to the Caribbean 8 years ago! Around 5 p.m. we sometimes have Happy
Hour and sometimes we are less happy (no- alcohol circumstances). Then dinner,
I usually start around 4 p.m. and we eat around 6.30 p.m. Then dishes again,
tea and coffee, I make yoghurt for the following breakfast, we talk and retire
if not on watch.
There are many chores I planned to do during my 2-3 weeks at sea but the boat's motions are mostly too wild to do much. But, I started on organizing and selecting photographs to digitally make into Photo albums. I hope to publish them on our site with a link but that can take a year...
By the way, we would welcome any comments
from YOU, you can post them on the blog and Michiel will forward them. Let's
hear from you?
